Breaking the Stigma: Why Talking About Mental Health Matters
For many people, talking about mental health still feels uncomfortable. Maybe you’ve heard phrases like “just tough it out” or “you’re overreacting.” These kinds of messages make it harder for people to reach out for help, even when they need it most. But here’s the truth: mental health is just as important as physical health. If you had a broken arm, you wouldn’t think twice about getting treatment. The same should be true for stress, depression, trauma, or anxiety. When we talk openly about mental health, we normalize it. We let others know it’s okay to not be okay. And we create space for healing — both for ourselves and for the people around us. The more we share our stories and support one another, the less power stigma holds. Seeking therapy isn’t a sign of weakness. It’s a sign of strength and self-awareness.
